Introduction

The guided visit is different from a stroll through the Zoo; it is a moment of learning and at the same time an incredible experience of connection with nature.

With construction works starting in 1977, the Bauru Zoo was inaugurated on August 24, 1980, featuring a small number of animals, most of them coming from the city zoo of Bastos, which had just been deactivated.

Located in an area of 20 hectares, the Bauru Zoo borders the Municipal Botanical Garden, which preserves 280 hectares of cerrado, representing one of the largest reserves of this biome in the state of São Paulo.

Being situated in an area of preserved vegetation, the Bauru Zoo houses various species of regional native fauna, such as the toco toucan, coati, jacupemba, green lizard, teiú, among others that live freely on site.

Over the course of 42 years, the Bauru Zoo has been able to expand in size and quality, continuously improving and modernizing, according to the principles that underpin its existence: the well-being of animals, the conservation of species, the development of environmental education, and scientific research. Due to the work being carried out, it is now considered one of the major tourist attractions in the region.

With 50,000 m² of built area, the Bauru Zoo offers free parking, accessibility ramps, restrooms, a nursing room, and a food court, in addition to a snack bar and souvenir shop.
