Introduction
MUSEUM OF IPIRANGA
The Museum of Ipiranga is the headquarters of the Paulista Museum, which is a museum specialized in history and material culture and is part of the University of São Paulo.
The building where the exhibitions and spaces for educational and cultural activities are currently installed was designed to be a monument in commemoration of the Proclamation of Independence, which took place in 1822. The building was constructed between 1885 and 1890. In 1894, the newly created State Museum (Paulista Museum) was transferred to the monument.
This is how the stories of the oldest public museum in São Paulo and the Monument to Independence became intertwined, and since then, it has been known as the Museum of Ipiranga.
