HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT

The Ilha Solteira Hydroelectric Power Plant, UHE Ilha Solteira, is one of the ten largest power plants in Brazil in installed capacity.

Located on the Paraná River, between the municipalities of Ilha Solteira (SP) and Selvíria (MS), UHE Ilha Solteira, together with UHE Jupiá, makes up the fourth largest hydroelectric complex in Brazil.

On average, the Power Plant generated energy to supply a city with about 3 million and 443 thousand inhabitants.

An innovative project

Since June 2016, CTG Brasil has been responsible for the operation of UHE Ilha Solteira, which marked the history of hydroelectric plants in Brazil due to its gigantic scale. The project adopted new construction techniques and contributed to meet the rapid growth of industry and Brazilian cities with clean energy in the last decades of the 20th century.

Modernization

Since 2019, UHE Ilha Solteira has been undergoing modernization, along with UHE Jupiá, in the largest ongoing modernization project of power plants in Brazil, involving an investment of R$ 3 billion. The initiative reinforces CTG Brasil's long-term commitment to the country, contributes to the Brazilian electricity sector, and increases the reliability of power plants that have been operating for over 40 years in generating clean energy.

The city of Ilha Solteira was founded in 1968 to house the workers of the Power Plant; The reservoir of UHE Ilha Solteira has a volume of about 21 billion m³, equivalent to six times the Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro.

Wildlife Conservation Center (CCFS / Zoo of Ilha Solteira)

Created in 1979, the Wildlife Conservation Center (CCFS) of Ilha Solteira occupies an area of approximately 18 hectares, covered by remnants of the Seasonal Semideciduous Forest and Tree Savanna (Cerradão).

Currently, the CCFS has a herd of about 350 wild animals, belonging to more than 50 species including birds, reptiles, and mammals. Various scientific research related to endangered species, such as the Pantanal deer, maned wolf, giant anteater, tapir, among others, are also developed there.

“One of the main objectives of the CCFS is to support and participate in scientific projects aimed at the conservation of endangered species and, when possible, to reintroduce these animals into nature, with the support of partner and specialized institutions. With the resumption of the visitation program, we reinforce this purpose of education and socio-environmental awareness,” says Simone Santos, Environmental Specialist at CTG Brasil.
