Introduction
MONTE ALTO PALEONTOLOGY MUSEUM
Fossils are the main components of the Museum's collection. They are remains of animals and plants that lived millions of years ago on Earth and became incorporated into rocks. In most cases, only the hard parts of living organisms have been preserved. The process of conserving organisms over geological time is called fossilization: in this process, organic remains are buried by sediments, protecting them from total decomposition over time. The sediments become rocks, and the organic remains preserved in them are called fossils. Therefore, the rock and the fossils preserved in it will be of the same age.
